CREATING A CARTOON

Here is my research into current cartoon designs. I used Behance.net to collect some contemporary modern pieces. I think all these design share a running theme. They are quite childlike.
Looking back to my research I wanted to create something which was simple but looked almost child-like. Below is my development for my final cartoon character.

Here are my initial sketches before creating my finalised cartoon. I played around with different eye shapes etc. I didnt want the cartoon to look too real because I wanted to keep a child-like aspect to it.
Here is the scan of my cartoon. I used fine liner so that the scanner would pick up all the small faint lines.

Here is my scan on screen. I opened it up in Photoshop so I could edit and crop it. I used levels to make the black lines more prominent.
My next step was opening it up in Illustrator. I live traced it and then expanded it. After this step I used a tool called Live Paint. This allows me to colour in my vector. Above is my finishing result.
The white background looked abit dull so I looked back to my research and realised most of the character designs had brightly coloured backgrounds. This is why is decided to do this.

COLLAGE AND FESTIVAL POSTERS

My type based festival poster for Unit 4.
I used Photoshop to create this poster. I experimented with techniques such as a clipping mask which I learnt from the tutorials. However I felt this design was my strongest and more effective.

My image based festival poster for Unit 4. I used Illustrator for this poster. This is because of the vector I created. I also learnt to do this through the tutorials.
My second collage for Unit 34.
For this collage I used Photoshop. I used techniques such as the gradient overlays, the selection tools and a variation of blending modes. I learnt all these techniques through the tutorials.
My second collage for Unit 34.
Again I created this collage using Photoshop. For this piece I used mainly the selection tools to cut the layers and adjust. By this I mean changing the colour and applying blending modes. This technique was particularly used in a Photoshop tutorial.
